Product Information
What It Is
Color Match Wrap is made-to-order automotive vinyl produced to the factory paint-code specification you provide. It is designed for OEM-color vinyl projects where a standard wrap-film color chart is not close enough.
Complex Colors And Metallics
Many customers come to Color Match Wrap after trying ordinary vinyl samples that miss the paint color, metallic character, pearl effect, or tri-coat tint. Color Match Wrap is made to factory spec for complex colors, including tri-coat pearls and tri-coat reds. For metallic colors, the production process tunes the metallic particle size and orientation to better match the OEM factory specification.
Common Projects
Use it for chrome delete, trim, mirror caps, bumpers, grille pieces, panel repairs, protective accents, larger refinishing projects, and full-vehicle wrap planning.
How To Choose A Size
For partial wraps, measure the part first and identify the longest continuous piece you want to cover without breaks, seams, or overlaps. That longest dimension determines the minimum roll length to order. Allow extra material for trimming, alignment, and practice. A chrome-delete strip, bumper section, grille piece, mirror cap, trim piece, or panel repair may need a longer roll than the square area alone suggests.
Whole Vehicles And Truck Bumpers
Whole vehicles can be wrapped by ordering multiples of the larger roll sizes. As planning examples, a sedan often uses four to five 4.5 ft x 12 ft rolls, and a large truck or SUV often uses five to six 4.5 ft x 12 ft rolls depending on vehicle size and installer allowance.
Front and rear truck bumpers can often be wrapped with one 4.5 ft x 9 ft roll, or one 4.5 ft x 9 ft roll plus one 4.5 ft x 12 ft roll when also wrapping the grille.
Paint Match Notes
This is vinyl, not sprayed paint. It is made to the original factory paint specification, not matched to the current aged paint on one specific vehicle. Age, sun exposure, previous repairs, production variation, and rare or complex colors can affect the visible match.
Order Details
Include your year, make, model, paint code, color name if known, and project notes so the order can be reviewed and produced correctly.
What is Color Match Wrap?
paint colors. It is positioned by the store as the world's only automotive OEM
paint-color matching vinyl. It can be used for paint-color matching, chrome
delete, trim and interior parts, paint-chip and scratch repair, protective
accents, partial refinishing, full-vehicle wrap projects, or color changes
using real automotive colors.
It is vinyl, not sprayed paint. It is usually faster and cleaner to install than
paint, creates less mess and odor, and can protect the original surface.
Can Color Match Wrap match my vehicle's factory paint color?
code as the color was when new. We are not matching the current aged paint on a
specific vehicle, and there can be normal variation between vehicles, production
runs, sun exposure, and older finishes.
Most colors are covered by the listed pricing. Some older, very low-volume,
motorcycle, or unusually complex colors may require a larger minimum order or an
upcharge. If that applies to your color, we will review the order and contact
you before production.
How do I order my car or truck's factory paint color in vinyl wrap?
Order from the Color Match Wrap product page and enter the vehicle and paint
details requested by the customizer: year, make, model, paint code, color name
if known, optional color-code sticker image, and any project notes.
If you are not sure about the paint code, use the paint-code lookup guidance in
this FAQ. If the vehicle sticker is faded, damaged, missing, or confusing, ask
the local dealer parts department for that vehicle brand to look up the factory
paint code using the 17-digit VIN.
For sizing, see How much Color Match Wrap should I order for my project? (#faq-how-much-material-should-i-order) before choosing a roll size.
Where do I find my paint color code?
code locations vary by manufacturer and model year, so use the list below as a
starting point. If the sticker is faded, damaged, missing, or confusing, contact
the local parts department for your vehicle brand and ask them to look up the
factory paint code using your 17-digit VIN.
#### BMW and Mini
Older BMW and Mini models often list the paint code in the engine compartment
on the front strut tower or inner wheel-well fender. Newer models often show it
on the black VIN sticker in the driver-side door jamb. Look for a 3-digit code,
or a paint name with a 3-digit code beside it.
#### Ferrari
Check under the front hood, along the inner sides of the engine compartment, or
under the rear deck or trunk lid. Look for a silver or yellow factory sticker,
often labeled PPG or Glasurit, with the official color name and code.
#### Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury
Check the driver-side door jamb or B-pillar sticker. Look for "EXT PNT" or
"EXTERIOR PAINT." Ford paint codes are usually 2 characters.
#### GM: Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac
Older GM models often use a silver Service Parts ID sticker inside the glove
box. The paint code is usually near the bottom and may be prefixed with "U" or
"BC/CC." Newer GM models often list the code on a silver driver-side door jamb
sticker below a QR code.
#### Honda and Acura
Check the driver-side door jamb or pillar for the color ID tag. Honda and Acura
paint codes are usually 4 to 7 characters and can include letters, numbers, and
dashes.
#### Hyundai and Kia
Check the driver-side door jamb or center door pillar. Look for "PAINT" or
"EXT COLOR." Many Hyundai and Kia paint codes are short, often 2 characters.
#### Mazda
Check the driver-side door jamb sticker. Look for "COLOR CODE" or "PAINT
CODE." Mazda codes are usually 2 or 3 alphanumeric characters.
#### Mercedes-Benz
Check the driver-side door jamb or the radiator support bar under the hood.
Look for a 3-digit code on the manufacturing plate, sometimes paired with the
letter "C" or shown before the paint name.
#### Nissan and Infiniti
Check the driver-side door jamb or door pillar. Look on the manufacturing plate
for "COLOR" or "CLR." The paint code is usually a 3-character code shown next
to or below that label.
#### Porsche
Check the driver-side door jamb, under the front hood, or on the large white
paper label in the spare tire compartment. Porsche paint codes are often 3 or 4
characters.
#### Stellantis: Jeep, Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler
Check the safety compliance sticker inside the driver-side door jamb. Look near
the bottom of the sticker or below the barcode for "PNT:" followed by a
3-character code.
#### Subaru
Older Subaru models often list the paint code on the passenger-side strut tower
in the engine bay. Newer models often place it on the passenger-side door jamb
or B-pillar. Look for a metal plate or sticker labeled "Color Code" or "Paint
Code."
#### Toyota and Lexus
Check the driver-side door jamb sticker. Look for the line that starts with
"C/TR" for color and trim. The paint code is usually the first 3 characters on
that line.
#### Volkswagen and Audi
Check the trunk or cargo area, especially the spare tire well or under the
trunk mat. Look for a white paper label with a 2, 3, or 4-character
alphanumeric paint code.
Can you make motorcycle, older, or unusual colors?
special review, a minimum order, or an upcharge before production. Please
contact us before ordering if the color is very old, motorcycle-specific, rare,
or unusually complex.
Why does Color Match Wrap cost more than off-the-shelf vinyl?
provide. Instead of asking you to choose the closest generic vinyl color, we
produce vinyl for your factory color code so it can be used for paint-color
matching, trim, chrome delete, panels, protective accents, repairs, and larger
refinishing projects.
That is different from off-the-shelf vinyl. Standard vinyl colors are chosen by
the vinyl manufacturer for general wrap projects. They can be useful when you
just want a red, blue, white, black, or silver, but they are not made to match a
vehicle manufacturer's factory paint-code formula.
Automotive paint codes are much more specific. There can be many different
factory whites, blues, reds, silvers, blacks, and other color families, each
with its own formula and effect. Reproducing one of those paint-code colors in
vinyl is a more complex made-to-order process than picking a color from a
standard vinyl chart.
How much Color Match Wrap should I order for my project?
cover, not only the total square area. For any project, allow enough material to
cover the part or vehicle, trim cleanly, and practice if you are new to
wrapping.
Measure the part first and identify the longest continuous piece you want to
cover without breaks, seams, or overlaps. That longest run dictates the roll
length you need to order. For example, a chrome-delete strip, bumper section,
grille piece, mirror cap, trim piece, or panel repair may need a longer roll
than the square area alone would suggest if you want one continuous piece of
vinyl.
As general planning examples, a large SUV can often be wrapped with five 4.5 ft
x 12 ft rolls, a sedan often uses four to five 4.5 ft x 12 ft rolls, and larger
trucks or SUVs can require five to six rolls depending on the vehicle and
installer allowance. Front and rear truck bumpers can often be wrapped with one
4.5 ft x 9 ft roll, or one 4.5 ft x 9 ft roll plus one 4.5 ft x 12 ft roll when
also wrapping the grille.
For other jobs, measure the project first and order based on the area,
complexity, trimming allowance, and practice needs. Contact us before ordering
if you are unsure which size to choose.
Are there free samples?
sample and are useful later for chips and scratches.

year. Check the Order Customizer for the current production timeline before
placing your order. Transit time begins after production is complete and the
order ships.
What are the main technical specifications?
adhesive. It is dimensionally stable, has low initial tack for easier
placement, and offers long-term removability when removed with appropriate
warming and care.
It is designed for body paint color matching, chip and scratch repair, trim
parts, chrome delete, repaired or new parts, protective accents, and OEM-color
color-change work.
How glossy is it?
paint. It is still vinyl, so it is not as glossy as high-quality sprayed paint.
Its advantages are repairability, cleaner application, protection, removability,
and the ability to make complex factory colors in vinyl.
Gloss is the normal finish. Satin or matte finishes may be available with an
upcharge when requested before production.
How long does it last, and is it durable and protective?
but real-life durability depends on sun exposure, weather, abrasion, road
debris, washing habits, and how the surface was prepared before installation.
Color Match Wrap is thicker and more scratch resistant than standard vinyl. It
can help protect against chips, scratches, UV exposure, and everyday wear. Many
customers use it in a paint-protection-film style role, especially where they
want paint-matched protection rather than a clear film.
The adhesive is pressure sensitive. Light pressure allows repositioning during
installation, and firm pressure completes adhesion. On a clean surface, the film
will adhere strongly and should not simply fall off in rain, car washes, or
normal washing.
It can wrap around panel edges instead of leaving the visible borders common to
some paint protection films. NanoCoat can help the vinyl stay cleaner and resist
scratches longer.
Can I install Color Match Wrap for chrome delete, repairs, or a full vehicle wrap?
DIY-friendly, but preparation, warmth, light initial pressure, and practice
matter. The film uses air-release adhesive channels to help reduce bubbles and
wrinkles. Apply it lightly at first so it can be repositioned, then press firmly
once it is in the correct position.
For paint chip stickers, clean the paint with good car shampoo, rinse and dry
thoroughly, apply in a warm work area, choose the best shape, place with light
pressure, reposition if needed, then press firmly to seal the adhesive.
The Color Match Wrap application guide: https://www.colorxlabs.com/pages/color-match-wrap-application-guide-vinyl-that-matches-paint-color
explains how to practice, prepare the surface, apply the film, handle curves,
and care for the finished installation. Review the guide before starting,
especially if you are new to vinyl installation.
How do I remove Color Match Wrap?
layer, not just the clear laminate layer. Warm the work area, surface, and film
before removal. A hair dryer or heat gun can help.
Paint chip stickers are removable when warmed, but they are designed to adhere
strongly enough that they should not wash off during normal use.
Who can install Color Match Wrap?
where the surface area is limited and the application is simple. Review the
Color Match Wrap application guide: https://www.colorxlabs.com/pages/color-match-wrap-application-guide-vinyl-that-matches-paint-color
before starting so you can practice, prepare the surface, handle curves, and
care for the finished installation.
DIY can also be realistic for larger projects, including bumpers and full-car
wraps, when the customer is willing to practice and plan the installation.
Practice pieces or factory seconds can be ordered with your order or afterward
so you can get a feel for the vinyl and test shapes before working on the final
panel. Professional installers do the same kind of planning when they approach
new panels, curves, seams, or multi-piece applications.
If you would rather have help, a professional sign shop or vehicle graphics shop
can also install Color Match Wrap.
Does Color Match Wrap stick to glass or plastic?
is clean and properly prepared, but plastics and textured surfaces can vary.
Before applying vinyl to an uncertain surface, try a simple masking-tape test:
if masking tape adheres to the surface normally, vinyl will usually adhere
normally too. Review the Color Match Wrap application guide: https://www.colorxlabs.com/pages/color-match-wrap-application-guide-vinyl-that-matches-paint-color
before installation for surface preparation, practice, curves, and care.
How should I care for it?
use a good spray-on, wipe-off coating regularly to help keep the vinyl
hydrophobic and easier to clean without scrubbing.
Color Match Wrap can usually be waxed or ceramic coated, but always test
coatings on scrap first to confirm compatibility with the laminate. A very mild
compound may be used carefully when appropriate.
Can I use a paint-matched sticker to cover a chip or scratch on my car or truck?
paint-matched vinyl sticker for small chips, scratches, bumper marks, old
license plate holes, removed badges, parking sensor marks, and other small spot
repairs. The sticker sheet includes multiple pre-cut shapes, and many shapes
can be trimmed to fit the repair.
They are made to the factory paint-code specification you provide and can
usually be applied quickly after the surface is cleaned. They are vinyl
stickers, not liquid touch-up paint, and they are not a guarantee of an
invisible repair on aged paint.
Choose Paint Chip & Scratch Stickers for small spot repairs when you want a
cleaner, no-brush, low-mess alternative to liquid touch-up paint.
Larger Color Match Wrap sizes are better for trim, chrome delete, mirrors,
panels, bumpers, repaired parts, protective areas, or bigger refinishing work.
Both products use the same core color-matched vinyl approach; the difference is
the format and project size.
